At Paideia we strive to mold our students into well-rounded adults.

We believe that the qualities of teamwork, effort and work ethic are all necessary in reaching our said goal. These qualities are all found in athletics. We also realize that a classically-trained student lives in a competitive world that does not normally pursue virtue or sacrifice on behalf of others: therefore, the student must learn how to exercise virtue within a world hostile to the aims of his education.

Within a classical school, athletics provide an opportunity for him to exercise his morality in a competitive world: there, the competitor is to do his best to achieve victory by exercising rightly-ordered virtue. This stands in contrast not only to outright cheating, but also achieving ugly victory by wrongly-ordered virtues. With rightly-ordered virtue, then, the competitor is to give it his best with the intent of winning, work within given authority (rules, referee, coach and team), and exercise noble character at all times.

Therefore, our coaches look beyond a season’s statistics to the cultivation of young men and women for whom athletics is an effective means to worthy ends but not the ends themselves. In this way, we aim to equip students for balancing their athletic pursuits with other commitments and callings in ways that diverge from society’s preoccupation with sports.

THE HANDS & FEET OF CHRIST

Ministerium

Service to the wider community has been a part of the school's fabric from its founding.

"Ministerium" is put into practice by students at all grade levels. As they pack hygiene bags for the homeless, gather canned goods, clean local parks, or write encouraging letters for fire fighters and police officers, Paideia students learn what it means to be the hands and feet of Christ.

The Paideia House System

The Paideia House System

The house system had its beginnings in academic institutions. In the early Middle Ages, students who desired an education would gather in a city where a Master Teacher was living. With this Master, they would share a house and devote themselves to study. The Master not only taught these students their academics but also discipled them in their Christian walk. These gatherings of students were the foundations of the great universities of Europe. Today, the term house refers simply to groupings of pupils, with no buildings involved.

In 2014 Paideia created a K-12 "House System" to encourage good-natured competition and service within the school. The house system provides camaraderie as students and faculty come together for various culture and tradition-building activities, academic and athletic challenges, and a student government that crosses age and grade boundaries. Each year students compete for the House Cup, which displays each year’s winner engraved on it.
