The Paideia School of Tampa Bay

Gift Acceptance Policies and Guidelines
(Updated 03/01/06)

The Paideia School of Tampa Bay, Inc. (hereinafter referred to as the “School”), a 501(c)(3) organization incorporated under the laws of the State of Florida, encourages the solicitation and acceptance of gifts for purposes that will help the School further and fulfill its mission. The following policies and guidelines govern acceptance of gifts made to the School for its benefit or the benefit of any of its programs.

The Mission of the School

The School shall operate a Classical Christian school providing students with rigorous academic instruction designed to develop the skills for a lifetime of continued learning. This will be done in an orderly atmosphere structured to support the spiritual, moral, social, intellectual, emotional, and physical development occurring simultaneously in the Christian home. All instruction will be based upon a decidedly biblical world and life view and designed to equip all students for every good work to which the Lord calls them. (Eph. 2:10; Rom. 12:2)

I. Purpose of Policies and Guidelines
The Members, Board of Directors, Headmaster, and Staff of the School are encouraged to solicit current and deferred gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations to secure the mission of the School. These policies and guidelines govern the acceptance of restricted and unrestricted gifts to the School and provide guidance to prospective donors and their advisors when making gifts to the School.

II. General Principles
- The School reserves the right to refuse or refund any gift that in any way may detract from its mission, character, integrity or independence.

- Each gift to the School shall be deemed to be an unrestricted gift unless specified otherwise in writing by the donor at or prior to the date that the School receives the gift.

- The School will only use restricted gifts for the particular purpose designated by the donor or as set forth in related solicitation materials.

- The School is committed to maintaining the confidence and trust of donors. Therefore, the following privacy policy is in place to protect personal information that donors may provide. The School may collect the following types of personal information: names, postal addresses, e-mail addresses and telephone numbers. The School will use personal information only to distribute information about the School, to alert donors to special events, and to continue to solicit donations. The School will not share, sell, rent or otherwise provide any of the above listed information to third parties. Furthermore, the above listed information is not accessible through the internet and is only accessible by authorized staff members.

- The School follows the letter and spirit of all laws and regulations affecting or relating to charitable giving and fundraising activities.

III. Gift Definition
A gift is defined as any transfer of personal or real property made on a voluntary basis and without consideration received in return. A gift is not a payment for goods or services received, nor payment made to directly benefit a pre-selected individual, such as a scholarship for a specific student selected by the payor. In the case of payments which are part gift and part payment for goods and services, the School shall specify such differentiation in printed materials for events and gift receipts.

IV. Use of Legal Counsel
The School shall seek the advice of legal counsel in matters relating to acceptance of gifts when appropriate.

V. Restrictions on Gifts
The School will accept unrestricted gifts, and gifts for specific programs and purposes, provided that such gifts are not inconsistent with its stated mission, purposes, and priorities. Restrictions on gifts are to be clearly detailed in writing by the donor and may require a donor agreement to be signed. The School will not accept gifts that are too restrictive in purpose. Gifts that are too restrictive are those that violate the terms of the articles of incorporation or by-laws of the School, gifts that are too difficult to administer or gifts that are for purposes outside the mission of the School. The School does not discriminate against any individual on the basis of race, color, sex or national or ethnic origin; therefore, gifts will not be accepted if restrictions on a gift violate this policy.

VI. Gift Acceptance
Delivery - All gifts to the School may be made by delivering such gift or legal title to such gift to the business address of the School or by personal delivery to the Headmaster of the School or the Headmaster’s designated representative for such purpose.

Acceptance - Subject to any limitations that may be present in the Policy Governance Manual, the Headmaster, in his sole discretion, shall determine whether to accept a gift to the School. The foregoing notwithstanding, gifts that could have a significant impact on the operations of the School and restricted or unrestricted gifts exceeding $5,000 must be reviewed and approved in advance by the Board of Directors in addition to the Headmaster.

Donor Agreement – Restricted gifts to the School exceeding $1,000 and unrestricted gifts exceeding $5,000 must be evidenced by a donor agreement signed by the donor and the School.
