The only good language is a dead language

The College Board (the publishers of the SAT) has published its national profile report and, once again, Latin students have the top performance on the language part of the test. The report shows that students with a Latin background scored higher in critical reading skills than students studying any other language with the exception of Hebrew, with which it was tied for first. Here are the scores:
Notice that the languages of Athens, Rome, and Jerusalem--the cultures at the heart of Paideia’s Classical Christian curriculum--outclassed their competitors by a significant margin.  Morte sola lingua immortalis fit is our translation into Latin of Chesterton's famous dictum that "a language must die in order to become immortal." As we like to say, Classical Christian education won’t save your soul – but it will give you more soul to save!
